World of Warcraft Professions
There are 2 types of professions, primary and secondary. A character can have up to 2 primary professions, but can learn as many of the secondary ones as they like. So you will need to choose your primary ones carefully. And that is what this guide is here for. Below are all the professions in the game and what they are all used for. Primary Professions Alchemy An alchemist uses herbs (that are collected using the Herbalism profession) to mix together and create potions for all different types of purposes. Potions can range from healing potions, mana potions which are great for paladins and characters that use spells. Other uses for potions can be to create buffs which give characters a limited boost in a certain area, perhaps giving them more strength. Blacksmithing Blacksmithing is the art of creating weapons and armour from bars of metal that are either bought from a miner. The more common thing though is to also have mining as it’s much cheaper to mine your own materials rather than purchasing them from the auction house constantly. Many items in the game cannot be looted from monsters so blacksmiths are in high demand as they are the only people who can create such items. Enchanting Enchanting is one of the most powerful professions available, mainly because they have the ability to improve a weapons performance and stats permanently. Being so powerful it will require quite a bit more work than all the other professions to become a high level. The main drawback to enchantment is gathering the resources required to do it. You need to find enchanted weapons to disenchant then use the materials to use on something you want. Engineering This is an interesting and fun profession at times. An engineer assembles metal and stones together into mechanical parts that are then used together to make guns, explosives helmets, mechanical dragons and much, much more! It requires more steps to create an item than other professions, but it is normally worth it for what you get. Herbalism This is a basic skill, all it involves is collecting herbs from the ground located around the map and they are then used for alchemy. So they are very highly sought after. Jewelcrafting Jewelcrafters create jewelry and trinkets which players can wear, they require metals and rare gems to create. They can then have different properties embued into them to give players an extra boost in stats, skills and a variety of different things. Leatherworking The best profession this can be teamed with is skinning because they gather the leather needed to use this profession. A leatherworker creates leather and mail armor. It is one of the more basic professions because it doesn’t have the vast numbers of items that can be created wither others such as blacksmithing. However it isn’t as hard to gain the skill. Mining Mining is a very popular profession for 2 main reasons. The first is other professions require the resources collected by miners quite a lot. Blacksmithers, engineers and jewlcrafters all need their resources. So if you have one of those as well it is very handy. Also if you want to make a lot of cash you can just sell all the ores your mine for a large amount of profit. Tailoring Tailors use cloth to create a vast selection of items such as armour which is worn by Mages, Warlocks and Priests. They also create a variety of items and are very popular amongst guilds because they can create bags. The higher their skill, the larger number of slots a bag can have. Skinning This is just how it sounds, you skin a monster or animal to collect either it’s leather, hides or wool. It’s normally a profession used just to gain extra cash as their resources are normally in high demand at all times. Inscription The inscription profession is relatively new and is proven to be quite useful. It allows the scribe to enhance different abilities and spells of players. It is a permanent effect so it can be very sought after, which would allow the scribe to earn a fair amount of gold from providing this service. Secondary Professions Cooking Cooks have a very basic task to achieve, cook different meats that are found into edible foods that are used to regenerate health, which is essential for characters that aren’t particularly good at healing themselves such as warriors. First Aid This is a good skill for players who cant heal themselves with spells or someone who wants an alternative to healing potions as they can become quite expensive. It is an easy profession to learn and the materials are very easy to gather. Fishing Fishing is more of an entertaining profession as it develops into its own mini-game while trying to gain the skill. You can also gather some valuable items while fishing, but mainly it will just be fish that can be given to cooks so they can then be eaten. |
