WoW Blacksmithing Guide

Blacksmithing in World of Warcraft is very important.  Weapons and armour are all created with this profession and are in very high demand as people always want better and more powerful weapons!  A blacksmith takes bars of metal from a miner, either purchased from the auction house, or gathered yourself if you also take mining as your other main profession.  They then use the metal to create their items.

To start off you will need to train as an apprentice and as with all professions you can train in one of the major cities.  To locate the required trainer just ask a city guard and you will be given directions and a mark will be put on your map to follow.

To get from 1-25 you will need some resources to get started. 
50x Rough Sharpening Stone and 50 Rough Stone

To get from 25-45
20x Rough Grinding Stone and 40 Rough Stone

To get from 45-75
30x Copper Chain Belt and 180 Copper Bar

That is it for the apprentice blacksmith part.  You will now need to revisit your trainer that you saw and now train up for becoming a Journeyman Blacksmith!

You will probably want to have mining as your other profession as already noted above, because it will save you so much gold rather than trying to buy it all from the auction house when mining is quite easy to gain yourself anyway.

You may also need some other resources to create items, such as gems (which are also found from mining) or leather, which will need to be purchased from a skinner.  Fortunately leather isn’t that expensive compared to the more rare types of rock.

To be able to create items you need the plans (or blueprint) to be able to make that item.  These can be purchased, for the more basic items, from the trainer.  More advanced plans will need to either be found from monster drops or bought from other places, or at the auction house.

At a high enough level, a blacksmith can specialize as an Armorsmith or a Weaponsmith.  Once you decide to do this, the type of item you create has a chance of becoming more powerful and can therefore be worth quite a bit of money.

Another item they can create are items to temporarily improve weapons that players can use while in battle.  This would either be sharpening or weight stones.  They also have the ability to create some items that are required for quests and cannot be obtained elsewhere so that’s good if you want to create some additional income from placing them in the auction house.

There are many other useful things that only blacksmiths can do, which make it one of the most powerful professions.  For example they can create skeleton keys which will be able to pick most locks.  Very handy for certain quests and can prove to earn quite a bit of gold!
